Dashboard & Interfaces Development

Designing Database Solutions

If you are working with Excel files on a regular basis, chances are that you have seen your fair share of big and chaotic workbooks that you sadly need to keep things going at work. However, without an engaging, well-organized, and intuitive interface, users quickly grow weary of using these workbooks.

The goals of dashboard & interface design are to…

  • …present information in a way that is easy to read and manipulate
  • …make the user’s interaction with the programme simple and efficient
  • …streamline tasks such data entry and report generation
  • …produce reliabe results by minimizing user error
  • …motivate the user to engage with the software
Why don’t you take a look at some of the dashboards and interfaces I created for my clients?

Let’s be honest: How many times did you have to wait for other users to close a workbook before you could start using it? How often did you have to make the same changes in several places?

When developing Excel solutions – especially if these solutions are meant for multi-user environments – one of the biggest challenges is setting up a database structure which a) allows for synchronizing data between all users, and b) enables users to collaborate.

I can help you to achieve the following goals:

  • Share data with multiple users
  • Build a data model based on relationships between data
  • Pass on changes (e.g. added or updated information) to all users as the changes occur
  • Allow for collaboration

Data Analysis

Apart from data storage, one of the most commonly undertaken tasks in Excel is basic data analysis using spreadsheet functions such as CountIf or Sumifs. However, the insights provided by these formulas pales in comparison to what is possible thanks to the introduction into Excel of Power Pivot.

Driven by the DAX functions language, Power Pivot allows users to conduct advanced data analysis and derive truly new concepts from data models.

Taking on your custom job

Excel projects can vary much in terms of scope and desired outcomes. While my largest projects have taken up to a year from start to completion and involved the development of a complete enterprise resource system, others have ranged from a few hours to a few weeks and have involved tasks such as improving the performance of slow and large workbooks.

Here is an example of various projects that clients have trusted me with:

  • Improvement of performance of slow & large workbooks
  • Cost calculator for logistics department
  • Mail Management System
  • Automated generation of weekly cost reports
  • Data preparation software to prepare taxes for authorities
  • Data entry programme for childcare provider
  • Data analysis dashboard to monitor performance metrics
I would be happy to hear from you regarding your current project!

Programming Languages and Tools I use

With Microsoft’s release and constant enhancements of the “Power” applications, Excel can now be enhanced by three different programming languages. Combining all languages allows for creating fascinating business intelligence solutions which were previously unthinkable. Thanks to being profficient in and up to date on all languages, I can help you in matters concerning, for instance, cleaning up large datasets, automating tasks, and doing advanced data analysis. Full-scale solutions can be achieved when combining all of these tools.

I am not using any third-party tools or add-ins, which could create incompatibility issues and security concern for some firms.

VBA

Streamline, automate and execute virtually any task in Excel. Create modern and intuitive user interfaces.

M & Power Query

Build robust and stable solutions to access, clean and load data into Excel.

DAX & Power Pivot

Data modelling tool for preparing and enhancing data analysis. Used to derive new concepts from data models.
